If you thought Ed Sheeran couldn’t get any cooler, wait until you see him in a academic robes accepting an honourary degree.
The 24-year-old singer received an honourary doctorate degree for his “outstanding contribution to music”; from the University Campus Suffolk in Ipswich, England, on Monday.
Growing up nearby, the Sheeran was on hand to to accept the degree in person, declaring: “Suffolk is very much where I call home. Receiving this recognition is a real privilege.”;
The “Thinking Out Loud”; singer also took to Instagram to share his big moment. His caption reads: “I graduated today, I am now officially Dr. Sheeran.”;
Although Sheeran left his school life behind at the age of 16 in order to pursue his career in music, he did share his thoughts on the postsecondary education.
“I think we should encourage young kids to not feel as much pressure,”; he shared. “I think if you don’t know what you want to do, hold off for a couple years, go travel and find yourself.”;
He continued: “I know that’s a weird thing to say [when] I’m coming to receive a doctorate, but I think there’s a lot of pressure on kids to go to university, and then a lot of them end up in debt with a degree that they didn’t really need to get the job they want.”;
