Judge Denies Johnny Depp’s Request To Depose Amber Heard

By Brent Furdyk.

A Los Angeles judge has denied Johnny Depp’s request to depose estranged wife Amber Heard and neighbour Raquel Pennington on Friday, a week earlier than the scheduled June 17 court date to determine whether the temporary restraining order issued against Depp should be extended.

As reported by People, Depp’s lawyer, Laura Wasser, filed a request to compel Heard to be deposed immediately, but “sources and court documents”; indicate the motion was denied because Heard was not given the required 10-day notice.

“Respondent’s request to take deposition of [Heard] is denied, as the request was untimely noticed,”; the judge stated in the documents obtained by People.

Wasser also asked Heard to provide all of Heard’s communications (which would include letters, documents, texts, social media, etc.) from Dec. 15 to present, including any correspondence with friend iO Tillet Wright.

However, Heard’s lawyer, Samantha Speer, argued that the request was “burdensome”; since her client had “not been given sufficient time to locate the requested documents. The request requires Amber to review over six months of personal communications with potentially every person she has spoken with, to search for any passing reference to the incidents in question. This is unduly burdensome.”;

Spector also states that “there is no need for [Heard’s] deposition”; because she already gave a full testimony at the time of filing the temporary restraining order on May 27.

In addition, Heard was unavailable to give a deposition on Friday because she was “en route”; to Pennington’s engagement party in New Jersey, but states: “I remain willing to attend my deposition on a mutually convenient date in the future and cooperate with any required requests in that regard.”;

However, lawyers for both sides came to an agreement that Pennington would be deposed on June 16 at 1:30 p.m. PT, the day before the domestic violence hearing is scheduled to be held.

In addition, the court documents obtained by People also include correspondence between the opposing sides in which they discuss a “settlement conference.”;
