In the new comedy Delivery Man, Vince Vaughn plays a sperm donor who discovers that he has fathered 533 children. In real life, Vaughn is also a father, although his family is slightly smaller—the Wedding Crashers star has 2 children, 531 fewer than his character in the movie. Even so, Vaughn says that his performance in the film would have been inconceivable had he not become a father in real life. “Being a new father definitely cracked me open in a way to be very accessible to those kind of feelings,”; Vaughn recently told ET Canada“s Erin Cebula.
As it happens, Vaughn’s co-star Cobie Smulders also recently became a parent. “Having a kid is a huge step and I think it changes people a lot,”; she said. Regarding her own personal experience, Smulders says that being a parent has forced her to see things from a different perspective, which in turn has made her more optimistic. “I get to see the world in a different way. You kind of rediscover how wonderful things are.”;
If the plot of Delivery Man sounds vaguely familiar, that’s because the movie is a re-make of the cult favourite 2011 French-Canadian comedy Starbuck. But that’s not the only connection that Vince Vaughn has to Canada. “My wife, of course, is from Alberta. My mom was born in Brantford, Ontario. So of course it’s always nice to go up there and get some help from the grandparents. It makes it a little easier.”;
Delivery Man hits theatres Nov. 22.
