Hans Zimmer wrote the soundtracks for five movies this year (including, most notably, Man of Steel, Lone Ranger, and 12 Years a Slave), so it’s easy to understand Zimmer’s decision to take on a slightly lighter work load for 2014. The Academy award-winning composer will only score three movies next year, and for one of them—The Amazing Spider-Man 2—he’ll split the labour with Pharrell Williams.
This will not be the first time that Williams and Zimmer have worked together. The two previously collaborated on the soundtrack for 2010’s Despicable Me and on music for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Williams also played the drums on Zimmer’s Man of Steel soundtrack.
In a recent Facebook post, Williams showered the legendary Thin Red Line and Gladiator composer with praise. “Hans Zimmer is like the king of all kings,”; he wrote. “I carry his books, sharpen his pencils, get his coffee, and I listen to every punctuation that comes out of his mouth. He is a genius.”;
Johnny Marr, Michael Einziger and Dave Stewart will also contribute to the Amazing Spider-Man 2 soundtrack. The movie is due in theatres on May 2, 2014.
