It seems one Glee member is already looking to life beyond graduation.
Blake Jenner, who plays Ryder on Global’s hit comedy-drama-musical, has turned to Kickstarter, the online fundraising tool that has made so many artistic visions a reality.
The 21-year-old hopes to raise enough money to fund Billy Boy, a screenplay he penned, with the intention of assuming the titular character himself. Along for the ride is Glee co-star and real-life girlfriend Melissa Benoist (that’s Marley to you and me) who would play opposite Jenner.
Billy Boy is described as “a story of a young man’s pursuit of redemption of self-discovery.”; Ryder would play Billy, a youth who is on the road to nowhere fast until he meets Jennifer, a waitress who can turn his life around and instill in him a sense of self-worth.
“Billy Boy is an extremely personal story for me,”; writes Jenner. “And as I was writing it, I was coming up with several options for how to get this film made. Going through the process, however, I realized that signing a typical financing deal in order to get the movie produced would have required a lot of compromises that, I think, would have taken away from the film’s rawness and integrity.”;
This is where you come in.
“We, undoubtedly, have the most passionate, loyal and amazing fans and we would love for you to join us in this film-making process.”;
The script’s Kickstarter page features information on the potential soundtrack, as well as storyboards that bring a visual element to Jenner’s written words.
