We’ve seen them all over the runway, but unless you’re walking in the Victoria’s Secret show, pulling off the over-the-knee boot isn’t an easy task! ET Canada’s Wardrobe Director Maggie Bill gives us tips on how to make the look less boudoir and a little more business!
First opt for a low heel. “It’s a very sexy look that can be difficult to carry,”; explains Maggie, “a flat heel makes it a little more casual and wearable for the everyday.”; Also try a natural colour. With that much leather, black can sometimes come across as vampy. At Phillip Lim’s fall/winter show, the tall brown boot ruled the runway and Maggie finds a similar look at Aldo. And at $200 a pop these thigh-high boots are “very reasonably priced,”; she says.
Just because winter days can be dark and dreary, doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to be, just ask stars like Rihanna and Gwen Stefani who show how fun a pop of colour can be on a lace-up bootie with a heel! Maggie pairs a similar bright orange DKODE ankle-highs with some warm slouchy socks to add warmth and even more flare.
But on those wet slushie days nothing beats those utilitarian insulated boots. While the look is more about survival than style, Maggie finds a pair of slim profile Sorels that fit closer to the calf, so they aren’t as bulky but they still give warmth and waterproof protection needed for those days trudging through the snow.
