UPDATE: On Wednesday morning, NBC announced that Howard Stern would be joined by Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Mel B, along with host Nick Cannon, all of whom have signed on for the upcoming ninth season of “America’s Got Talent’.
As Howard Stern’s millions of listeners know, the Sirius XM shock jock has been on the fence about whether or not he’ll re-up for another season of America’s Got Talent, but during this morning’s broadcast he announced his decision.
“I really, really did struggle with this decision,”; he told longtime cohost Robin Quivers, “because…I’ve been working a long time…I really wanted to decide if this was going to take away too much… free time, did I really still enjoy doing it, did I have something to say, is it something I should be involved with still? It started out as a goof…now it’s becoming a job. I thought I’d do it for one season. And then I said…let me go back [for] a second season, I think I’ll be better at it.”;
Explaining how NBC made substantial changes in the show just to accomodate him — moving AGT from L.A. to New York in the first season, then moving the performances from New Jersey to Manhattan’s Radio City Music Hall in order to save Stern from a long commute, he admits NBC made him feel “loved and …which plays right into my big, black dark hole that lives inside of me that can never be filled with enough attention…Robin, I decided I needed a personal life, but that big black hole in me that demands attention…”;
“The big black hole, did it win?”; asked Robin.
“It won,”; confirmed Howard. “I am going back for one season more.”;
As for whether his fellow judges Howie Mandel, Mel B and Heidi Klum will also be back. Howard admitted he wasn’t sure. “I don’t know if they are coming back — I’m assuming they are. I’m assuming it’s the same crew…I have nothing to do with that decision…[they are] lovely people, and if they want to come back, God bless them.”;
The ninth season of America’s Got Talent is set to air in summer 2014.
