Many viewers have been struck by the sexual chemistry between Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu) and brilliant-but-damaged Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) in Elementary, but Lucy tells ET Canada that we shouldn’t hold our breaths waiting for a Holmes-and-Watson hookup in the hit reboot of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s iconic detective.

“You know, in Melrose Place you can sleep with everyone,”; she tells ET Canada“s Matte Babel, “but here, where are you gonna go?”; Besides, she adds, “I think there’s something very wonderful about preserving their relationships as it was in the literature.”;

Which isn’t to say Watson isn’t looking for love — as demonstrated in a recent episode in which she ventured into the world of online dating. “I think that online dating is nothing to be ashamed about,”; says Lucy.

But would she ever try Internet dating in real life? “I would do it,”; she admits, “except, who knows who would be joining that, you know? {Laughs] It’s a little bit risky once you are in the public eye.”;

In addition to the myriad mysteries Watson will help solve this season, Lucy will also be stepping behind the camera to direct an episode, and admits she’s a bit nervous about directing her castmates and crew. “I am very nervous about it and I am also excited about it,”; she says, “so it kind of balances itself out.”;

Elementary airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. EST/PST on Global.
