The success of "Life of the Party" made 15-year-old Mendes the youngest artist to debut in the top 25. And he did it all without any radio promotion — his nearly 3 million Vine fans made it happen.
The huge support from his Vine fans helped him win the 2014 Teen Choice Award for Webstar in Music.

Recognition

In March 2018, Mendes released the lead single "In My Blood”. His self-titled album followed it up on that May and debuted at No. 1.
He didn’t score any Grammy nominations for his first two albums, maybe because the Academy was still getting over the fact that he was a Vine star. But Shawn finally got some well-deserved recognition this time around, and popped up in a major category: Song Of The Year for “In My Blood”. He also scored a nomination for Best Pop Vocal album. He scored a major win when he bagged the Billboard Music Award for Artist of the Year in 2018. He has won eight Junos so far and could bring home more when the 2020 Junos are belatedly awarded.

Support

Shawn Mendes is encouraging his fans to show their support for George Floyd and #BlackLivesMatter. “I’ve been trying to find the right words for days. I feel sick to my stomach,” Mendes wrote on Instagram of Floyd’s murder. “Hearing the sound of his voice crying for help is bone chilling and it f**king breaks my heart. I’m so sorry that this injustice keeps happening. I can’t imagine what life dealing with racism so constantly is like. As a white person, I not only recognize that this is a problem but that I am part of the problem.” That's why this Canadian star is a true idol.
