10 - 'Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place'
That title kind of explains it all, no?
In one of his first major roles, Ryan starred on the ABC sitcom for four seasons and 81 episodes. Going off the air in 2001, Ryan’s work set him up for some major big screen work in the years to come.
9 - 'Just Friends'
Shot in Saskatchewan, the romantic comedy has Ryan dawning a fat suit in flashbacks, as he plays a former high school nerd who returns to his hometown and reconnects with his long-time crush, and just wants to get out of the “friend zone.”
8 - 'Safe House'
Ryan jumped at the chance to be trained by Denzel Washington on the big screen.
Playing a rookie CIA agent who suddenly has to house a turncoat operative, it was great to see the guys team up and fight the bad guys in the hit action flick.
WOMAN IN GOLD
While he sticks to a lot of action and comedic roles, it was refreshing to see Ryan take on a purely dramatic role, opposite Helen Mirren no less, who scored a Golden Globe nomination for her work.
Playing a lawyer, Ryan helps an elderly Austrian-American Jewish woman fight to reclaim family possessions that were seized by the Nazis in Austria during the Holocaust. The indie flick was a sleeper hit at the box office.
It’s not easy having chemistry with your onscreen love interest, so how about having chemistry with three?
Playing a Dad who is telling his daughter the story of how he met her Mom has Ryan romancing Rachel Weisz, Elizabeth Banks and Isla Fisher, and he makes it look effortless.
5 - 'Blade Trinity'
Before he became Deadpool, Ryan flexed his action muscles in the vampire sequel alongside Wesley Snipes and Jessica Biel.
Ryan played Hannibal King, a vampire hunter, who is part of the Nightstalkers. For character alone (and a solid goatee), this role makes the list.
4 - 'Van Wilder'
You can never forget your past, right?
Sure, the American Film Institute probably isn’t clamouring to archive this teen comedy, but Ryan showed that he had the chops to be a big screen leading man in the 2002 flick. You gotta start somewhere!
Wanna watch a 95-minute movie of someone buried alive in a coffin?
Doesn’t sound very appealing, but Ryan made this thriller extremely compelling when he literally had very little to work with. He couldn’t even stand up! Armed with only a lighter and a cell phone, Ryan’s intensity made this one standout.
2 - 'The Proposal'
Sure, audiences were mostly excited to see Sandra Bullock return to the romcom genre after a long hiatus, but you don’t make $317 million at the box-office all on your own, Sandra!
It’s not an easy task to play opposite America’s sweetheart but Ryan proved to be a charming foe for Sandra, even sparking real-life romance rumours. Can these two team-up again please?
1 - 'Deadpool'
Was there any doubt that this would top the list?
Ryan’s long battle to play the superhero on the big screen paid off big-time.
The raunchy combo of comedy and action is the perfect role for Ryan, and audiences loved it, as it raked in $782 million at the box-office worldwide.
