Taylor Swift's lyrics for new track "Gorgeous" have had everybody talking once again, with the new single off her upcoming album 'Reputation' reportedly about her current boyfriend, Joe Alwyn.
From "that time I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk" to "and I got a boyfriend, he's older than us," fans have been speculating that there are numerous references to her British beau in the catchy track.
Sneaky listeners also picked up on the fact Alwyn's eyes are blue, just like the ones she sings about in the song.
However, with the club references in the single, could "Gorgeous" actually be about her ex boyfriend, Calvin Harris? Harris is also older, has an accent being from Scotland, and, to top it all off, is pretty gorgeous as well.
What do you think?
'Look What You Made Me Do'
Halloween candy is in the shops and dark and brooding fall tunes like this one are right on time. Like many of Swift's power hits, this track sees her retaliating against someone who's ticked her off. Everyone thinks it's Kanye thanks to unidentified sources. It could be about her mailman. It could be about Trump. It could be about Evander Holyfield. Will we ever truly know? Maybe the official music video, which will debut Sunday during the VMAs, will offer more concrete information.
In the mean time, lyrics like "Honey, I rose up from the dead / I do it all the time" are classic Swift and that survivor narrative is one that her fans absolutely embrace.
This song is about Tim McGraw. You can tell by the title. There's not a lot of tricky detective work to do here. Tim McGraw, you guys, it says so right there. But if you did want to look a little deeper, you might say this tune is about how Swift's high school relationship with boyfriend Brandon Borello ended when he went to college ... just like she sings in the song.
This song, rumoured to be about the Taylor Swift/Katy Perry Rift Of The Century, came out in 2014 when said feud was still mildly interesting.
'We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together'
Was there ever a time before Taylor Swift released '1989'? Yes, yes, there was and those were the days of 'Red,' her 2012 album featuring this choice kiss-off to ex Jake Gyllenhaal.
Fans speculate that the late "Glee'"star Cory Monteith inspired this track from the 2010 album "Speak Now'" because the pair dated briefly around the time of the song's writing.
Back in 2012, Swift dated political heir Conor Kennedy for three months, creating speculation that he influenced this song.
Mkay, the title here, generic as it may be, really makes a strong case that this song is about former high-profile flame/fellow singer/songwriter John Mayer. It also references an age difference, which Swift and Mayer definitely had (12 years!).
'Back To December'
There is a theory that this track is about 'Twilight' star Taylor Lautner, with whom Swift costarred in
the 2010 movie 'Valentine's Day' and romanced off-screen.
'I Knew You Were Trouble'
We would kill to see the way Harry Styles walks into a room and lets you know he's trouble because that's supposedly who these lyrics are about: "'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in / So shame on me now / Flew me to places I'd never been / 'Til you put me down, oh." Surely the highs are worth the lows with Harry?
'Forever & Always'
OMG, remember way back in 2008 when Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas were an adorbs teen couple UNTIL HE DUMPED HER OVER THE PHONE?! (We all remember that, and we will remember it forever and always, Mr. Jonas.) Anyway, all signs point to Swift immortalizing that thud/dial tone of a breakup in this song.
