Chris Pine – ‘Outlaw King’
Pine got a lot of penis hype when “Outlaw King” opened the Toronto International Film Festival and audience members focused on his brief nude bathing scene. Director David Mackenzie took the film back into editing following the TIFF premiere but made sure to let everyone know Pine’s nude scene remained intact.
Viggo Mortensen – ‘Eastern Promises’, ‘The Indian Runner’, ‘Captain Fantastic’
He’s dropped his pants more than once but it’s his brutal nude bath-house fight scene in David Cronenberg’s “Eastern Promises” that gets most of the attention. Back in 2007 when the film premiered at TIFF, Mortensen called the whole experience "slippery, painful, embarrassing. You see what you see. I always knew the scene should be as realistic as the rest of the movie, so I couldn't feasibly keep the towel on," he told The Telegraph.
Tom Hardy – ‘Bronson’, ‘Taboo’
The British actor has appeared fully naked on screen in “Bronson” and in the TV series “Taboo” because, according to Hardy, "It’s not a period drama until someone gets naked and covers themselves in blood.” Unfortunately, the full-frontal scenes were cut from the final edit of the series, though Hardy wanted to make it clear it wasn’t his decision. "You’re lucky there was a loin cloth because I didn’t want one,” he told the BBC.
Jason Segel – ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’
Segel dropped trou for the laughs in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” surprising audiences with the nude reveal in the film’s first five minutes. He told ET at the time: "I thought that was hilarious. I was actually not very uncomfortable doing it. I really felt free. You have to put it in the context that this was 2006, 2007, and this hadn't been done before, in my recollection, where the main guy was going to be naked in the first five minutes of the movie."
Jude Law – ‘Talented Mr. Ripley’
It’s a glimpse at best but Law momentarily showed off his birthday suit as he climbs out of the bathtub following a water-logged game of chess with Matt Damon’s Tom Ripley in “The Talented Mr. Ripley”.
Richard Gere – ‘American Gigolo’
In one of the most-talked-about performances of the 1980s, Gere bared it all as a male prostitute in “American Gigolo”. According to Gere, the script didn’t even call for a full-frontal moment: "It was just in the natural process of making the movie."
Peter Sarsgaard – ‘Kinsey’
What’s a movie about the bedroom habits of the average American in the mid-1940s without a little full-frontal male nudity? Leave it to Peter Sarsgaard to get naked as he gauges the interest of Liam Neeson’s sex research pioneer Alfred Kinsey in the 2004 biopic.
Michael Fassbender – ‘Shame’
It's perhaps the most famous penis on this list.
As Brandon, a struggling sex addict in “Shame”, Fassbender physically and emotionally bore all, earning not only a Golden Globe nomination, but lots and lots of headlines and praise from his fellow actors. When his “Prometheus” co-star Charlize Theron presented the German-Irish actor with the Ally For Equality Award at the Human Rights Campaign gala in 2012, she called his penis “a revelation.”
"I’m available to work with it any time. I have to say that I was truly impressed that you chose to play it big. Most other actors would have gone small, trust me. I know because I’ve worked with them,” Theron joked.
Colin Farrell – ‘Triage’
A 28-year-old Farrell went full-frontal in 2004’s “A Home At The End Of The World”. Unfortunately, for audiences the well-endowed Irish actor’s member was reportedly “too distracting” (according to Farrell himself) and the scene was left on the cutting room floor. He didn’t get another chance to bare all until five years later, as a combat photographer suffering from severe PTSD in the war drama “Triage”.
Ewan McGregor – ‘Velvet Goldmine’, ‘The Pillow Book’, ‘Young Adam’, ‘Trainspotting’
McGregor has no problem letting it all hang out in any number of films. According to Esquire, McGregor “has done more full-frontal nudity than any other A-list actor working today.” Based on our Google image search, that sounds like an accurate statement. But nowhere does it seem like he’s having more naked fun than as the Iggy Pop-esque singer Curt Wild, flailing about in front of a crowd with his leather pants pulled down in “Velvet Goldmine”.
Christian Bale – ‘American Psycho’
Patrick Bateman does a lot of graphic and gruesome things in “American Psycho” but it’s really hard to get the image of a naked and bloodied Bale running down a hallway brandishing a chainsaw out of one's mind.
Mark Wahlberg – ‘Boogie Nights’
Okay, so Wahlberg did nearly bare it all as a porn star with the help of a large plaster prosthetic penis, complete with a pubic hair wig dyed to match the actor’s natural hair colour in "Boogie Nights". Wahlberg, however, may have been better off going au naturel:
“I have to stand there and take off my clothes, and they start basically sculpting this thing around you. It's very uncomfortable, very awkward,” he said.
The final result so impressed Wahlberg, he reportedly kept the prop.
Kevin Bacon – ‘Wild Things’
Bacon’s fully nude shower scene is pretty tame by today’s standards but when the film debuted in 1998, it was a very big deal. The actor reportedly didn’t think much of it until he started doing the North American press tour where every question was about his junk. “When [we] got to the European press, nobody asked me about it,” he later told HuffPo.
Ben Affleck – ‘Gone Girl’
Affleck’s blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shower nude scene made headlines in “Gone Girl”. The actor embraced his full-frontal moment and insisted it was all part of keeping things real during filming.
Harvey Keitel – ‘Bad Lieutenant’, ‘The Piano’
Keitel flaunts it all as a corrupt cop in “Bad Lieutenant” to maximum shock value. One year later, he again got naked for his slightly less disturbing role as a mute woman’s lover in “The Piano”.
Gael Garcia Bernal And Diego Luna – ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’
Mexican actors and real-life BFFs are in the buff in Alfonso Cuaron’s sexy coming-of-age road trip adventure “Y Tu Mama Tambien”, waking up in bed together fully nude after a night of heavy drinking. But that’s not all – there are plenty of other all-nude moments and racy scenes, including a few funnier moments, like the film’s opening featuring some not-so-great teenage sex that netted the movie its original NC-17 rating.
Eddie Redmayne – ‘The Danish Girl’
The Oscar winner filmed a vulnerable full-frontal nude scene as transgender painter Lili Elbe, one of the first people to undergo gender reassignment surgery, in “The Danish Girl”. Redmayne described the nude scene – his first – as “uncomfortable” and “awkward”, but revealed he now has a better understanding of what his female co-stars go through on set.
“Just walking onto a set filled with men, watching the difference in how you’re treated, or the scrutiny…the gaze was overwhelming,” he told Details. “A lot of the women I worked with said, ‘Yeah, welcome to our world.’”
Sacha Baron Cohen – ‘Borat’
Cohen’s Borat has a lengthy naked wrestling match in a hotel with his producer (played by Ken Davitian) in the comedy; it's definitely an image you’ll never get out of your head.
