Episode 1: Kate Gets Rejected

Kicking off the season, Kate and Toby visit a doctor specializing in In Vitro Fertilization after failing to conceive naturally. Not long into their appointment, they're both told that they're insufficient candidates for the treatment. The look on Kate's face left us DEVASTATED to say the least.

Episode 1: Future Randall & Toby

At the very end of the premiere episode, an older Randall can be seen speaking to future Toby about "her."
Although it's unclear as to who this "her" is, this scene had fans at the edge of their seats as Randall spoke.

Episode 2: William Returns (Sort Of)

Randall's beloved biological father sadly passed away before the premiere of season three, so seeing William on the screen left fans shocked and confused. Turns out, it was a flashback moment to his later years at his apartment in Philadelphia.
In the flashback, William meets with a young woman with a child. Flash-forward to the present, Randall introduced that same woman to his adopted daughter Deja in an attempt to help socialize her with people and children in the community.

Episode 2: Randall's Insecurities

While attending Kevin’s big movie premiere, Randall tells his wife Beth that he doesn't feel like he has ever completely fit into his family. “It’s like I’m trying too hard or I’m not trying enough.”
Adding to that, Kevin explains to Randall that their sister Kate thinks that she’s the only one who's able to pass on a piece of their dad, Jack, which is why she wants to go through with life-threatening IVF procedure.
Randall was crushed, and so were the fans.

Episode 3: Jack's Back

While under anaesthesia for her IVF egg retrieval, Kate had a wild dream where she sees two versions of her younger self.
To Kate's surprise, Jack also appears in her dream as well. “Hi Katie girl,” Jack says to present-day Kate.
This moment didn't just leave Kate in shock, but fans as well.

Episode 4: Just Seconds Away

In previous episodes, we had heard of Jack's brother Nicky. In episode four of season 3, fans finally got to know the story of Jack's brother and how he joined the armed forces.
As it turns out, Nicky was two minutes away from being safe from the Vietnam war draft.
In this episode, the earliest flashback reveals that Nicky was born at 11:58 p.m. on Oct. 18, 1948, which would eventually be the date that would be called in the draft lottery years later.

Episode 5: Uncovering Jack's Past

For as long as Jack was alive, he told his three children that he was a "just a mechanic" during the Vietnam War.
In episode five, Kevin searches for answers regarding the necklace his dad gave him before he passed.
After finding a name connected to the necklace, Kevin meets up with Jack’s Vietnam war buddy Donald, who confirms that Jack was a staff sergeant, not a mechanic during the war.
"In October 1971, your dad saved my life," he stated.

Episode 9: Tess' New Storyline

After having a meaningful discussion with Kate in episode 8, Beth & Randall's daughter Tess comes out to her parents.
This moment was truly heartfelt and emotional, leaving fans in tears.
"We love you no matter what, OK?” Beth tells Tess. “Look at me, you see me? Look at your dad, you see him? Do you see anything other than two people who love you more than any two people could ever love anyone in the entire world?”

Episode 9: Nicky's Alive

Let's just say the final seconds of the mid-season finale had "This Is Us" fans yelling at their TV screens.
It was revealed that Jack's younger brother Nicky, who was thought to have been killed in the war, is actually alive.

Episode 11: Nicky's Freak Accident

After the Pearson siblings found Uncle Nicky in a small Pennsylvania town, fans were finally given answers as to why Jack cut of contact with his brother.
Back in Vietnam, Nicky accidentally killed a child named Lanh. This prompted Jack to cut ties with him.

Episode 12: Kevin Breaks His Sobriety

It was a moment fans will never forget.
After learning more about Uncle Nicky, Kevin took it upon himself to take him to veteran centre in an attempt to help treat his alcoholism.
However, Nicky wasn't convinced and made it clear that he didn't think they would help.
This prompted Kevin to get frustrated and unfortunately revert back to his old ways. Fans were shocked and saddened when he decided to take a sip of the alcohol that he had found in Nicky's trailer.

Episode 14: Kate Has Her Baby

In one of the scariest moments of season 3, Kate went into premature labour at just 28 weeks pregnant.
Fans crossed their fingers and toes in hopes that their little baby boy would survive.

Episode 17: R&B On The Rocks

As it turns out, Randall running for counselor was the catalyst for drama between him and Beth.
One of the show's favourite couples had been on the rocks for a while now, but in episode 17, things got heated.
Audiences got to see all the cracks in their relationship as well as a look back at how they fell in love. However, the most shocking moment of the episode was when Beth used Randall's anxiety as a way to try and shoot him down.
It's safe to say fans jaws dropped.
