"Parasite" Makes History!
Following Bong Joon-ho's Best Director win, "Parasite" brought the biggest surprise of the night right at the end, beating the other contenders to take home Best Picture, the first foreign language film ever to win the biggest prize at the Oscars.
Janelle Monae Kicks Off The Show
Janelle Monae opens the show in spectacular fashion, singing the opening theme song from "Mister Rogers" before doing an original showstopper about the Oscars, complete with a cameo from Bill Porter and a dress inspired by "Midsommar".
Steve Martin And Chris Rock Bring The Comedy
After the opening musical number, Steve Martin and Chris Rock took the stage, cracking jokes about getting a "demotion" from hosting in previous years. The duo also poked fun at nominees, including "Joker" and Martin Scorsese, and noted the controversy over the lack of diversity among the acting nominees.
Brad Pitt Wins And Thanks Leo
For the first award of the night, Brad Pitt took home Best Supporting Actor for "One Upon a Time in Hollywood", the first acting Oscar of his career.
In his speech, Pitt referenced the recent impeachment trial of Donald Trump, and thanked co-star Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as his kids.

Idina Menzel was joined by singers from around the wold to sing the "Frozen II" original song "Into the Unknown" in multiple languages.

Following a clip reel paying tribute to the best music moments in movie history, the Oscars delivered the first real surprise of the night, in the form of a live performance by Eminem of his Oscar-winning song "Lose Yourself".

Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus presented the award Best Cinematography and Editing, with a hilarious bit involving forgetting completely what each of those jobs entail.
James Corden And Rebel Wilson
James Corden and Rebel Wilson honoured the nominees for Best Visual Effects by dressing up in cat costumes, in reference to their roles in the 2019 classic "Cats".
Elton John Performs
Elton John took the stage to perform "(I’m Gonna) Love Me Again" from "Rocketman", nominated for Best Original Song. John went on to win the Oscar later in the evening.
Bong Joon-Ho Surprises
In one of the biggest surprises of the night, Bong Joon-ho took home the award for Best Director for "Parasite". In his speech, Bong paid tribute to his fellow nominees, including leading an ovation for Martin Scorsese, who he noted was one of the great directors he studied as a film student.
