Founding the book club Our Shared Shelf in 2016 which focuses on female empowerment, Watson has also left copies of books in public places, dropping clues for fans to find them. Marching For Women’s Rights

Watson made the 2017 Women’s March in Washington, D.C., a family affair by bringing her mom, Jacqueline Luesby, along with her as she hit the pavement in support of women’s rights. "It's really emotional for me, it's the first march I've ever been on," she said in an interview, "I flew here from England with my mother, and just to see the turnout, that thousands of people showed up today, is just incredibly heartening and it feels incredibly positive. I'm just really humbled to be here."

She Schools Critics On The Meaning Of Feminism

After getting flack for being “a bad feminist” for posing braless in an issue of Vanity Fair, Watson took the opportunity to school critics about the true meaning of feminism, standing up for women everywhere. "Feminism is about giving women a choice. It's about equality," she told BBC in reaction, pointing out that feminism "is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It's about freedom. It's about liberation."

The “Little Women” star is one of hundreds who have publicly supported the Time’s Up movement, calling for women to rise up and fight against sexual harassment. She donated $1.4 million to the movement’s Justice and Equality Fund which supports women facing workplace discrimination and harassment.

In 2016, Watson travelled to Malawi as part of her work as a UN Goodwill Ambassador to meet with young girls who had been married as children. As an advocate for countries to outlaw child marriage, Watson also met with village chiefs to educate on how child marriage leads to a cycle of poverty.
