10 Things You (Probably) Didn’t Know About Shemar Moore

Shemar Moore has been a staple on the small screen for decades, entertaining audiences in hit shows like “The Young and The Restless”, “Criminal Minds” and the recent “S.W.A.T” reboot. While Moore’s certainly known for his swagger, we’ve dug up some fun facts that may be new to even his biggest stans. Here are 10 things you might not know about the Emmy winner, in honour of his 50th birthday on April 20.

Not only is Moore bi-racial, his first name is actually a combination of both his mother (pictured) and father's: Sherrod and Marylin.

Moore was born in Oakland, California, but moved to Denmark as an infant where his mother accepted a teaching job. In fact, his first language was Danish. No longer fluent, he learned to speak English while attending a British private school in Bahrain.
Canadian Connection

Moore's maternal grandmother is from Quebec City, meaning he's technically part French-Canadian. Très bien for fans north of the border.

Moore is arguably most well-known for his frequent use of the phrase 'baby girl', stemming from his stint on "Criminal Minds". However, he was never actually given the line to read. The actor ad-libbed during the first scene he and co-star Kirsten Vangsness shared on screen. That initial flirtation took on a life of its own throughout the series, and the affectionate moniker is now reserved for those within his female fan base. It's also the name of his clothing line, of which a portion of proceeds is donated to America's National MS Society, in order to fund multiple sclerosis research. The cause is one particularly close to Moore's heart, as his late mother suffered from the disease.
Head-Over-Heels For Halle

Moore also dated Academy Award winner Halle Berry back in the day, sharing that "she was the first woman to really knock [his] socks off." At the time, they kept their relationship quiet since Berry was newly divorced from MLB player David Justice. But the former "Young and The Restless" star admits that he "fell hard" for her and their time together made him "much stronger as a man."
