A Strong Religious Background
Jessica Simpson comes from a strong religious background.
The singer and fashion designer's father, Joe Simpson, was a Baptist minister.
It was through the church that Simpson started singing before being signed to a Christian music label.
Mickey Mouse Club
Jessica Simpson was nearly part of the Mickey Mouse Club, but only made it to the semi-finals.
She later said that after watching Christina Aguilera perform, she got super nervous and messed up her own act.
The 'Sweetest Sin'
Jessica Simpson made it no secret she was to remain abstinent until she was married, even showing off the purity ring her dad gave her.
She equally made losing her virginity a headline with her song “Sweetest Sin" about her wedding night with Nick Lachey in 2002.
Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey's reality show "Newlyweds" was first pitched in 1994 for Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley but it never panned out.
Simpson's father heard of the idea and went to MTV after the couple married, reviving the show for them.
In her memoir Open Book, Jessica Simpson revealed that being on a reality TV show made her feel like cameras were always watching her.
She recalled a time that she and Nick Lachey left their empty house to have an argument just in case there was a hidden camera.
The Chuck Norris Connection
Another revelation from her memoir was that fellow Texan Chuck Norris once gave her acting lessons when she was starting out.
No word on if they practiced the roundhouse kick.
Jessica Simpson earned the nickname "Yoko Romo" while dating Dallas Cowboys player Tony Romo.
Romo played some of his worst games while dating Simpson and fans gave her the nickname suggesting she was cursed
The Final Straw
Jessica Simpson and John Mayer had an unhealthy on-again/off-again relationship, but it was Mayer's Playboy interview where he called her "sexual napalm" that was the final straw.
"A woman and how they are in bed is not something that is ever talked about. It was shocking," Simpson said. "He was the most loyal person on the planet and when I read that he wasn’t, that was it for me. I erased his number. He made it easy for me to walk away.”
During Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson's 2014 wedding, it was the groom who had a wardrobe mishap.
As the couple's children Maxwell and Ace came down the aisle, Johnson went to pick them up and ripped his pants.
“So after the ceremony, when everybody left, Eric was in his boxers and tux jacket. There’s always got to be something that happens!” Simpson later recalled.
Billion Dollar Empire
Jessica Simpson's fashion empire, which includes clothing and beauty products, brings in a billion dollars each year in retail sales.
However, she sold off a 62.5 per cent stake in the company but still makes a pretty penny off the line.
Thankful For Family
After suffering from drinking and pill problems, Jessica Simpson said it was missing out on taking her kids out for Halloween that was the turning point.
“I was terrified of letting [my kids] see me in that shape,” she admitted. “I am ashamed to say that I don’t know who got them into their costumes that night.”
Her family and friends staged an intervention the following day and Simpson says she hasn't turned back.
