The Weeknd Shut Out
The Weeknd's musical releases this year earned him a headlining spot at the Super Bowl halftime show. Shockingly, however, he did not get a SINGLE nomination in any Grammys category.
Best Album Snubs
There were a number of notable omissions from the Best Album category. Most disappointingly, only two of the eight nominations went to Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.
Additionally, renowned artists Lady Gaga and Harry Styles were unable to crack the general category.
Luke Combs Can't Cash In
Luke Combs dominated country airwaves and earned Album of the Year at both the CMA Awards and Academy of Country Music Awards in 2020. Surprisingly, he did not earn a single Grammy nomination in any category this year.
Fiona Apple Crushed
Fiona Apple's fifth-studio album was a chart-topper critical darling. Described as an instant classic by many, it is surprising to see Fetch the Bolt Cutters without a nomination for Best Album. She did receive a pair of nominations for Alternative Music Album and Rock Performance.
Legends Miss Out
Legendary artists Bob Dylan and The Chicks roared back to life this year, but both struck out with the Recording Academy ahead of the upcoming Grammy Awards ceremony.
Boom Goes The 'Dynamite'
BTS' name appeared on the Grammys nominations livestream; however, they were omitted from the major categories. BTS earned nods in the Pop Duo/Group Performance category, but don't be surprised if the BTS Army is left unfulfilled.
Bad To The 'Bones'
Maren Morris had a tremendous year highlighted by the success of "The Bones". That is why it is troubling to see her big hit not among the nominees for either Song of the Year or Record of the Year.
New Artist Noah Cyrus
Noah Cyrus is truly carving out a career for herself. Fun note, Noah tied her sister, Miley Cyrus, for total Grammy nominations and also received a nod her big sister never did: New Artist.
The Old School
New age rappers like Lil Baby, Da Baby and Lil Uzi Vert have dominated the airwaves; however, the Grammys decided to acknowledge more experienced rappers at the upcoming awards show. Nas, Royce da 5'9" (pictured left), Jay Electronica, Freddie Gibbs and Alchemist, and "Rhythm and Flow" winner D Smoke are among this year's Rap Album nominees.
Coldplay's Best Album Nod
It was a pleasant surprise to see Coldplay snag their second Best Album nod (and first in 12 years) at the 2021 Grammys. Their latest project, Everyday Life, was among the Best Album nominees.
Jacob Collier Is Cooking
Jacob Collier is only 26-years-old, but he already has four Grammy Awards under his belt. He can go five-for-five at the 2021 Grammys as he scores his first-ever Best Album nomination for Djesse Vol. 3.
